Irene Bevacqua was born in Brooklyn on January 15, 1940. Irene was the fifth of eight children born to John and Elizabeth Polsunas. Her siblings are John, Rosie, Annie, Bob, Joseph, Peter and Joan. Irene attended elementary school at P.S. 9 and went on to attend Prospect Heights High School. Upon high school graduation, she worked as a receptionist in the Wall Street area. Irene dated Albert “Buddy” Bevacqua, a handsome boy who lived across the street on Carlton Avenue. They fell in love and were married in St. Joseph Catholic Church on August 22, 1959. A few years later in 1967, they purchased a house in Sunset Park at 420-55th Street. Irene and Buddy raised 11 children in that house and they made life long friends and have cherished memories of their time while on 55th street. Irene took great joy in hosting family parties at her house because she loved her house filled with family visiting, talking and laughing. Irene loved how the family grew larger with marriages, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Irene was such a caring and giving mom who shared her gift to others as she worked as a Paraprofessional in the LYFE program at Telecommunications H.S. Here she provided support and love to the babies of high school students.
Irene is survived by her eleven children: Albert (Cora), John (Rita), Joseph (Karen), Irene (Bill), Christopher (Mia), Elizabeth (Tommy), Robert, David (Sharon), Paul, Brian (Allison) and Lawrence (Marybeth) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Irene was quite a lady and she met everyone with a lovely smile. We ask that you keep her in your prayers and remember her fondly.
