Bernice King was born on September 15, 1930 in Buffalo, NY and passed away peacefully on July 1, 2019 in Sarasota, Florida. She grew up in Jamaica, Queens in NYC and graduated Andrew Jackson High School in 1948. She worked as a stenographer and secretary for the NYS Dep’t of Labor Investigations Department where she met the love of her life, Joe. Bernice and Joseph M. King (deceased in February 2003) were married in the middle of a hurricane on September 11, 1954. She is survived by her son Michael, her son John and his wife Joyce, her son Paul and his wife Colleen and 11 nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with four grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, Jenna and Catherine and great-grandchildren Atlas, Ruby, Camden and Baby King. Bernice was a warm, loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, with an ever-present smile, a wonderful sense of humor, a love of sports and politics, and an unsurpassed love of family. Her greatest joys were the time she spent with her grandchildren, whether it was taking them to play skee-ball in Coney Island, playing games, or just sitting, talking and laughing. She will be missed terribly but the memories of her will always bring continued joy and happiness to all those who were fortunate enough to know her. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday July 8, at Our Lady of Solace R. C. Church in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. Visiting is Sunday July 7, from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm at McLaughlin &; Sons Funeral Home in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
